Hyggee All-In-One Set

Hi everyone, how are you doing? Can you believe we are now into the 3rd month of 2020? Doesn't the time just seem to pass by so quickly?

Today I am going to review a brand that I was quite interested in and had to snag up a box set when it was on sale. I finished using them up recently and I am ready to post my thoughts on the set and a part of the Hyggee brand.

Let's go on with the review 😊

COMPANY BACKGROUND

Hyggee is a Korean brand that has a mindset of "less is more" in terms of skincare. Their focus is to produce products that will create a minimal skincare routine, which would not lead to excess products not being absorbed and cause irritations.

I believe their name is also derived from the Danish and Norwegian word of Hygge, which is a word for cozy while feeling of wellness and contentment.

Something worth noting is that it appears the brand has redesigned their logo.

That is the old logo, which is switched out to an even more simpler logo, seen below.

They have put out a few more products now, which may signify that they are stepping away from the all-in-one products and towards products that have specific functions. That is my speculation for now, but we will see with time

FUNCTION

The set I purchased contains four products, which I believe is supposed to be complete my routine after cleansing. The products are:

  • All-In-One Mist: a long lasting mist that will hydrate and soothe the skin. And improve the skin barrier
  • All-In-One Essence: a lightweight water-based essence that is nourishing and moisturizing. It also contain ingredients that will aid in brightening and anti-aging.
  • All-In-One Cream: a balanced oil-water cream that is designed to be deeply hydrating and improve moisture barrier. It contains brightening ingredients to brighten and even out the skin tone.
  • All-In-One Tightening & Firming Mask: a mask with a neck and ear piece to lift up the skin while it hydrates and firm up the skin through its essence.

PACKAGING

The products, aside from the mask, comes in frosty plastic containers with white lids. They all have a white label with the old logo and the product name on it. It also has a gray portion, which contains an open date section, allowing you to track how long the product has been opened. The mask has a similar design of white and gray sections. It is pretty easy to tell that they are all from the same brand.

The mist has nothing that would be really irritating to the skin, except for the few ingredients that CosDNA doesn't have records for. But other than that, it has mostly non-irritating ingredients.

It has some good ingredients like Lactobacillus ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Panthenol, and hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid. It also contains cinnamon bark extract, which is moisturizer, antioxidant, astringent and emollient. Which means it can do a lot of things. But at the concentration it is at, probably not that effective. Especially since it's likely the only astringent and antioxidant ingredient.

All-In-One Essence:

Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycereth-26, Dimethicone, Niacinamide, Water, Pyrus Malus (Apple) Fruit Water, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Hydrolyzed Viola Tricolor Extract, Goat Milk Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Nymphaea Alba Flower Extract, Xylitol, Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Streptococcus Thermophilus Ferment, Pentylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate, Butylene Glycol, Propanediol, Triethylhexanoin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-40 Stearate, Panthenol, Jojoba Esters, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Glyceryl Caprylate, Tromethamine, Sodium Polyacrylate, Polyglyceryl-3 Beeswax, Adenosine, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Polyglutamic Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Sodium Palmitoyl Proline, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Phospholipids, Ceramide NP, Protease, Cholesterol, Arginine, Phytosterols, Cetyl Alcohol, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol

The essence contains a few ingredients that has a level 3 in safety. It's not a big deal but if you have sensitive skin, it may be not good for you.

Other than that, it's not bad. It contains a few ingredients of note, such as niacinamide, hydrolyzed collagen, goat milk, and ceramide NP. It also has similar ingredients as the mist, such as Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Bifida Ferment Lysate and Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid.

It has a lot more moisturizing and emollient ingredients than the mist, which indicate this will be a much more moisturizing product.

All-In-One Cream:

Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Water, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Niacinamide, Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, 1,2-Hexanediol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Xylitol, Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Streptococcus Thermophilus Ferment, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Glucoside, Dimethicone, Glyceryl Stearate, Pentylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl, Taurate Copolymer, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Caprylyl Glycol, Dimethiconol, Glyceryl Caprylate, Lecithin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Adenosine, Bisabolol, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Tocopherol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Butylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Sucrose Palmitate, Ceramide NP, Phospholipids, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Cholesterol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexylene Glycol, Arginine, Phytosterols, Behenyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol

Similar to the prior products, there is only a couple of ingredients that have the safety level above 2. Which is really not bad to me. But then I see the acne and irritant sections, and there are quite a few that scores high in those columns. Which means that this contains a handful of ingredients that are potentially irritating. So this would not be a good product for those who has sensitive skin or acne prone skin. If you have normal skin, I would still be careful with it. Though, it would be a shame to buy this 80ml jar (which is quite a bit of product), and have it cause irritations on your skin.

That aside, the ingredients list  (IL)looks similar to the essence. It is heavy on the emollient and moisturizing ingredients. Which goes with its intended purpose of providing a deeply moisturization to the skin. The only thing that perplexes me is that it is a cream that has a balanced water and oil level. But from the IL, it kind of looks like it's more focused on the oil/moisturizing side than a balance. If I am wrong in my interpretation of the IL, please let me know!

All-In-One Tightening & Firming Mask:

Water, Glycerin, Betula Platyphylla Japonica Juice, Methylpropanediol, Niacinamide, Centella Asiatica Extract, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Althaea Rosea Flower Extract, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Saccharomyces/Grape Ferment Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Camellia Japonica Flower Extract, Xylitol, Lupinus Albus Seed Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate, Bifida Ferment Lysate, Streptococcus Thermophilus Ferment, Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Dimethicone, Tromethamine, Allantoin, Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate, Polyglyceryl-10 Myristate, Caprylyl Glycol, Adenosine, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Polyglyceryl-10 Stearate, Glyceryl Caprylate, Hydrogenated Lecithin, Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbitan Laurate, Phospholipids, Ceramide NP, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Acetyl Dipeptide-1 Cetyl Ester, Cholesterol, Tocopherol, Arginine, Phytosterols, Carbomer, Caffeine, Xanthan Gum, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol

This has a couple of ingredients that are low level acne and irritant triggering. I feel that if you have sensitive and/or acne triggering skin, don't even risk it. It may not be worth it.

The IL contains similar base ingredients as the mist, essence and cream, which are Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate and Bifida Ferment Lysate. It also contains quite a bit of ingredients that are anti-inflammatory and antioxidants. The anti-inflammatory explains why the mask is also recommended to be used when you are puffy in the morning, as it will help with the depuffing.

SCENT

All of these products does not have artificial fragrance added. Instead, it uses essential oils to naturally add fragrance to the products. Specifically, the bergamot oil.

Anyways, that scent is quite strong. As soon as I opened each of these products, I can smell that citrus bergamot scent. It is quite high on the IL, so I am not surprised that the scent is so strong.

Nothing wrong with the scent, but the smell of citrus makes me nervous as I think about the presence of vitamin C and how I need to double up on my sunscreen usage.

However, the usage of essential oil in products are debatable in the community. There is a group that are for the usage of essential oils, and feel that it does no damage to the skin. While the other group feels that it is produces damage to the skin over long term use. I am not going to tell you how to feel about the inclusion of essential oils in skincare. I ask you to do the research and form an opinion for yourself based on your skin. After all, you know your skin the best.

Personally, I don't know exactly how I feel about the inclusion of essential oils, except for the tea tree and lavender ones as I absolutely despise their scent. I think with everything in life, moderation is the key.

PERFORMANCE

I am going to primarily focusing on the trio (mist, essence and cream) as the mask was just a one off product while the trio was used for months.

Now, a quick refresher. The trio are designed to hydrate and moisturize the skin, especially dry skin. Which are perfect for me, as I have normal but dehydrated skin. I also live in a very dry environment, which gets even more dry during the winter season, with the indoor heating and the freezing weather.

The mist produces a really find mist that gets absorbed by the skin quickly. The nozzle produces a pretty decent mist, it's not super powerful but it's also not the finest mist I have tried. It's just decent.

That bergamot scent is strong right off the bat and lingers, which is the same for the rest of the series. It leaves the skin feeling soft and hydrated. I quite liked using the mist and used it up first.

The essence is an opaque gel that has a bit of slip to it and a pump is enough for the face. It also sinks in quite nicely and leaves the skin feeling moisturized.

It doesn't leave the skin feeling dewy like the mist, instead, it has a bit of a slip initially. Then it leaves the skin feeling just a tad moisturized than normal. Not the heavy moisturizing that was advertised.

But when added with the mist, it does create a hydrated and moisturized feel on the skin.

As for the cream, it is a very thick cream. In pastry terms, it's a stiff peak. You can turn it over and the cream will not fall out. That's how thick it is. But when I use it on the skin and spread it, it is spreads beautifully.

A little bit of cream, about the size of a dime will be more than enough for a thin layer on the skin. It sinks in quickly and leaves the skin feeling a tad moisturized. In fact, it kind of feels like there's a layer of product sitting on top.

When the trio of products are used at once, the overall effect is quite nice. It leaves skin hydrated and moisturized, along with super strong bergamot scent. Because let's not forget, that's 3 layers of products with bergamot oil high on the IL.

As for the mask. I had it on for 40 minutes, which is 20 minutes longer than recommended, and it was still very moist. It left my skin feeling moisturized and that's about it. I didn't see any tightening or firming effect. It was not worth noting to be honest.

OVERALL THOUGHTS

I was excited to try this brand. I wanted to love this set. I pushed myself to keep going with it but I just can't love it.

The strong and lasting bergamot scent leaves me uneasy each time I use it, as my mind immediately associate the scent to the potential presence of Vitamin C and how much diligent I have to be with sunscreen.

The products all together leaves my skin feeling very hydrated and moisturized, but honestly, it wasn't enough. It gave a false pretense of having hydrated and moisturized skin, until I started getting flaky skin during the winter season. The skin flakes just kept coming, even when I tried physical and chemical exfoliants. The only conclusion I came to was that the trio of products was not sufficient in providing the level of hydration and moisturization my skin needed. As soon as I switched my routine to products that are specifically targeted for hydration and moisturization, the skin flakes was a lot less prevalent. Which supported my hypothesis that the Hyggee products were not enough.

Which led me to believe that the all-in-one products are designed for those who does not have dehydrated skin, and does not live in a dry environment. Which is kind of narrow and kind of misleading. Since we all live in different environments and have different skin types and needs. The all-in-one doesn't solve all of the needs. It can't. That's why we have different products for different needs.

The idea behind the whole brand is nice, but I don't think its products simply does not meet my needs. On the face anyways....

Because....

I started to use the essence and cream together as a body cream and my legs LOVED it. My legs are often very dry, which is not a surprise given my environment. The essence and cream together made my legs feels so silky and moisturized that I don't get itchy anymore. It's awesome as a body cream. A very expensive body cream. But it's a good way to utilize the products that did not work on the body.

If you can't tell by now, this brand didn't work out for me and I will not be repurchasing these products.
